The IB Heads Conference – Singapore 2011
Exciting Opportunity
We would like to invite all IB senior educational leaders to the IB Heads Conference in a stunning location in Singapore, 13-16 October 2011. The conference promises to offer something unique for participants, as we hope to take you on an exciting journey, with fellow heads from across the globe, as international leaders and continuous learners.
With your support, this conference will be invigorating, stimulating and challenging. Your participation will help us to: develop relationships through professional learning communities (PLCs); create learning networks during and after the conference; foster action and follow-up; and ultimately support fellow IB school leaders, so they can make a difference in their students’ learning and achievement.
We have a number of inspirational speakers who promise to stimulate our learning conversations including: Matthew Albert, Sudanese Australian Integrated Learning; Prof Sugata Mitra, University of Newcastle; Chandran Nair, Global Institute for Tomorrow; Dr Douglas Reeves, The Leadership and Learning Centre; Kavita Ramdas, Global Fund for Women; and Monique Seefried, Former Chair of the IB Board of Governors. Please see the conference website www.headsconference.com for details.
Learning together
To support IB heads learning, we ask you to participate in a strand[1]. In addition to inspirational keynotes, workshops and presentations, you are invited to choose a strand in which you would like to participate. Each strand would meet three times during the conference and afterwards (digitally). The format for each strand session would be: a short presentation by a strand member; sharing and discussion of best practice; drawing conclusions and making recommendations for action. Each strand would focus its efforts on crucial questions related to leadership and generate outcomes reflecting that focus.
To exemplify learners as leaders, IB students and alumni would also participate in the strands, lead presentations, and have permanent exhibitions on display throughout the conference. IB staff would also play key roles, not just in presentations, but also in strand participation. This broad spectrum of participation is intended to establish a diverse IB learning community.
The strands, which link to the overall theme and the topics of the keynote speakers, are:
- Heads as Learners – Continuous Professional Learning for IB Heads
- Developing Student Leadership
- Leadership for Improved Student Achievement
- Leadership for Improved Pedagogy
- Leadership for Improved Curriculum and Assessment
- Leadership Based on the IB Learner Profile
- Leadership and Learning for Global Citizenship
- Leadership in the 21st Century Digital World
Leadership is dynamic and IB heads are at the forefront of educational leadership. See the IB Heads conference website www.headsconference.com for more information about this exciting coming together of expertise from across the IB community. We hope to see you there!
