Stephen Spahn
Stephen Spahn has been the chancellor/headmaster of the Dwight School in New York City since 1967. He has a long history of involvement with international education and was one of the founders of the Anglo-American International School, which merged with Dwight School in 1993. The Dwight School was the first school in the USA to offer all three IB programmes. He is also a director of Woodside Park International School, London, which offers the IB curriculum to students from the age of four.
Stephen has considerable experience of managing commercial and educational media enterprises, including the UK publisher John Catt Educational Ltd. He is one of the principals of Quad Partners, a $200 million educational investment fund.
Stephen has always maintained a commitment to community service activities. Through the Dooley Foundation he participated in the first health survey of Nepal, and helped establish a mobile hospital in the Kulu Valley, India, for Tibetan Refugees in 1965. He has subsequently been a trustee of Asphalt Green (1989–97), Teaching Matters (1998–2003) and the Boy Scouts, Manhattan (1994–2002). He is currently a trustee of the Rubin Museum of Himalayan Art. He was a founder member of the Guild of International Baccalaureate Schools and of the Institute for Civic Leadership.
Stephen completed coursework for a PhD at Columbia University, attended Oxford University and holds a BA from Dartmouth College.
