Regional Director Asia Pacific

The Asia Pacific Regional Director reports to the Chief Operating Officer School Division, who in turn reports to the Director General (CEO). The Regional Director oversees the efficient cost-effective functioning and ensures the quality assurance of all school services delivered regionally. These services are in support of the three IB programmes (Diploma Programme, Middle Years Programme, Primary Years Programme) in line with the IB’s mission statement and strategic plan. The role also provides leadership and manages a team of over 30 staff in Singapore, in addition to 2 staff in the Australian Branch Office and 3 sub-regional Representatives based in Tokyo, Beijing and Mumbai. These staff work throughout the Asia Pacific region supporting schools in the implementation of the programmes and managing the ongoing quality assurance of the programmes in authorized schools, organizing teacher training workshops, and promoting support for and recognition of the three IB programmes. A key aspect of the role of the branch office staff is to understand the unique legislative, fiscal, cultural and language needs of their respective territories.
The Asia Pacific office serves as the direct link between the IB and interested schools, authorized schools, and between the various ministries of education; it is the IB’s front office for Asia Pacific schools. The office has considerable direct contact with teachers and school administrators through school visits, professional development workshops and through work with the regional Associations of IB World Schools.
Heads/Managers of the following areas report to the Asia Pacific Regional Director and provide an indication of the types of responsibility:
• School Service
• Professional Development
• IB Educator Network
• Regional Development
Support services including HR, Finance and Communications
Key Accountabilities:
• Responsible for for school relationship and management in the area
• Sets strategy consistent with the overall IB strategy.
• Responsible for the relationship with IB Association, networks and key stakeholders in the IB community
• Manages university and government recognition efforts in the region
• Is the “face” of the organization regionally, including media
• Manages authorization and evaluation visits to schools, ensuring schools meet set standards
• Ensures that all school delivered support services meet quality standards
• Ensures delivery of teacher professional development workshops and activities as needed
• Ensures all contractors, IB professionals, and staff involved in the delivery of professional development (PD) and school visits are trained according to standards set by PD and School Services
o Works with global PD team to ensure adequate volume of trainings for workshop leaders, practitioners, field representatives and QA procedures
Key Competencies of the Ideal Candidate:
• A postgraduate degree in education, management or other appropriate field. Doctorate preferred.
• A proven record demonstrating a high level of leadership, organizational, management and inter-personal skills
• A proven commitment to international-mindedness and significant experience working with diverse cultures to achieve successful outcomes
• Excellent communicator with a high level of spoken and written competence in at least two languages is preferred, one of which must be English
• Proven ability to manage a multi-million dollar profit and loss budget in collaboration with other staff and to work within it
• Experience of marketing in a nonprofit context
• Familiarity with the key features of all three IB programmes
• Some familiarity with typical education systems and practices in public, private and international school systems relevant to the region.
• Experience in working with not-for-profit entities and with not-for-profit Boards of Directors
• Willingness to work flexibly and to travel extensively.
