Professional Development Trainer Ref 716s

This position is a 1-year fixed term consultancy role for the King Faisal Foundation-IB (KFF-IB) Project.

The goal of the KFF-IB Project is to ‘increase the number of students benefitting from a high quality international education experience in Saudi Arabia and the Arabic-speaking World’. This project represents an extraordinary opportunity to make a positive impact on education in Saudi Arabia and the region through teacher and administrator training for Saudi educators to increase the quality of teaching and learning.  In the short-term, the project aims to provide elementary and middle school teachers at the King Faisal School in Riyadh with the skills and knowledge to enter into the Primary Years Programme and the Middle Years Programme authorization process.    In the long-term, the project aims to develop a bank of new professional development materials for foundation teacher training, with the intention of creating self-sustainable teacher training programme for the Arabic-speaking world.

The primary responsibility of the Professional Development (PD) Trainer is to plan, deliver and evaluate all training interventions and provide mentoring to teachers participating in this project.   The PD Trainer will collaborate with the PD Manager to set strategy for upcoming workshops session as well as plan and schedule classroom support and interventions.  S/he will be required to file regular reports on mentoring activities and assist in the preparation of workshop reports.  The PD Trainer will contribute to the development of 3 modules of the Foundation Framework for teachers and administrators respectively. 

The PD trainer will be required to spend a considerable of time in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.  S/he will work as a part of the larger project team with colleagues from other departments within the IB.  It is imperative that the PD trainer works closely with the team to adapt development program according to the specific needs and progress of the participants, taking into consideration the political and cultural conditions within Saudi Arabia and teachers’ background. 

Requirements:

  • At least a bachelor’s degree in Education, preferably with a teaching certificate
  • Extensive experience as a classroom teacher and experience as a trainer of adults
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well in team environment; willingness to collaborate and able to settle conflict amicably
  • Solid time-management skills, ability to withstand pressure and the drive to work past obstacles
  • Strong belief in increasing access to a quality education and a commitment to and understanding of the IB’s aims, values and principles
  • Experience in dealing with the complexities, challenges, and adaptation requirements related to educational reform in different countries
  • Familiar with practice and policy in the educational systems of the Middle East, and a knowledge and understanding of the cultural and political complexities of the region
  • Fluency in written and spoken English; an added advantage with knowledge of Arabic
