The International Baccalaureate (IB) is committed to supporting the ongoing development of a worldwide professional learning community comprising internationally minded teachers, school leaders and administrators. To that end the regions conduct comprehensive annual programmes of workshops and conferences designed to help teachers and schools to better understand and deliver the three IB programmes. Through the provision of a wide variety of resources and development opportunities IB educators are challenged to constantly reflect upon and improve their practice.
As the outsourced IB approved professional development grows the position requires significant collaborative involvement and liaison with a range of external organizations. The importance of negotiating and establishing effective legal, financial and business frameworks with all external professional development providers is a key responsibility of the role.
Professional development plays a key role in the organization’s mission. It is driven by the need to develop, pilot, implement and maintain policies, procedures, programmes and resources targeted at improving the quality of administering, coordinating, teaching and delivering the IB programmes.
The Global Head of Professional Development (PD) Business Development will develop and manage strong professional links with PD managers in all IB offices, as well as formal links with external education consultants, professional development agencies, educational institutions and commercial enterprises in relation to the field of PD. There will also be a need for a strong relationship between the Global Head of PD Business Development and the IB PD and School Services Research Manager in order to effectively maintain the positions integrity.
The Head of PD Business Development will be responsible for:
- Taking a lead role in the formulation, implementation, and evaluation of policies, processes and procedures for outsourced PD providers
- A PD database of outsourced PD providers is developed and maintained
- Contractual arrangements are developed and consistently applied to all outsourced PD providers
- Taking a lead role in the formulation, implementation, and evaluation of new PD business initiatives and developments (IB and non IB) in order to develop significant growth within the department
- Developing new PD products and services and ensuring they are scheduled and evaluated each year and with proven success through margin increase
- Carrying out financial planning, review and analysis of all PD products in order to ensure the best value of the most appropriate products for IB
- PD pricing structures being developed and implemented within the department
- Developing and overseeing a business strategic plan with global marketing strategies for the division
- Creating and maintaining partnerships within the PD business development area
- Leading the recruitment, management and development of staff within the division, resulting in an effective team providing specialist PD business advice and services
- Contributing to the overall IB risk management process and minimizing the risks to the IB, ensuring that those risks are minimized
- Preparing budgets, forecast and managing income and expenditure to achieve financial goals within the IB’s annual operating cycle to ensure best value and compliance with financial guidelines for the Professional Development team
Requirements:
- Advanced degree (MBA or Advanced Degree in Educational Leadership) and/or a combination of experience, education and training that would provide the level of knowledge and ability required for the position
- Significant successful educational administration experience, business and/or professional development systems
- Knowledge of online educational resources and e-learning environmental systems
- Demonstrable experience in strategic planning and capacity planning
- Experience with business analysis and business planning procedures
- A demonstrable track record at management level working in educational administration, business or professional development systems.
- Demonstrable experience, knowledge and understanding of strategic planning and capacity planning
- Exceptional interpersonal skills
- Demonstrable experience of working in professional development within the education sector
- Demonstrated ability to establish effective working relationships with diverse groups
- Effective communication skills with a diversity of groups and individuals
- Ability to initiate and manage change in order to achieve outcomes
- A willingness to take the initiative and champion innovation
- Exemplary skills at supervising, analyzing, and evaluating multiple and complex tasks
Location:
Initiallly based in New York, the post will ultimately be located in the Washington, D.C. area.
