At the end of 2007 the IB Board of Governors approved a new language policy that will help the organization meet demand for new languages.
The new model includes two categories of languages: working languages and access languages.
It allows greater flexibility to provide services in languages that had not previously been supported by predefining levels of service, which can be different from programme to programme. It also provides a decision making framework for introducing or changing the status of supported languages, via the language policy committee. The model also ensures that the organization’s values and aims are reflected in its activities.
