IB graduate profile - Giovanni Marotta Thorne

Graduated from Newton College, Peru, in 1996.

"I graduated with an IB diploma in January 1996 from Newton College in Lima, Peru. I went to study law at UPC law school from 1998-2002, and I am now continuing my studies in criminal law (First Degree) at the USMP in Lima Peru. I hope to finish next year.

Currently, I am a Vendor Compliance Officer working for ASA Textile Sourcing, where I supervise the certification of factories and insure compliance with the codes of vendor conduct, labor laws, and environmental legislation of Peru. We help our clients conform to the standards of supplier certification, regularly evaluating factory infrastructure and product safety.

Since joining ASA, I have come to understand the importance of optimal labor conditions. In this way the IB curriculum has played a fundamental role in my education, preparing me for my undergraduate studies in law. The capacity to think critically across academic disciplines made me appreciate different realities and understand human behavior in terms of the relationships between individuals. For that reason, the IB is a source of ethics, values, and knowledge, and teaches the student how to develop in the real world.

In my free time I play for the Flaming Lions, a rugby team founded by former students from Newton College."
