Ambassador Jaime Daremblum, a scholar of Latin America, international politics, and international economics, joined Hudson Institute as a Senior Fellow and Director of Hudson's Center for Latin American Studies in 2005. He served as Ambassador of Costa Rica to the United States from 1998 to 2004. Ambassador Daremblum also served, from 1985 to 1998, as a foreign policy advisor to the Presidential campaigns from the Social Christian Unity Party of Costa Rica. He has written several books on international and Latin American politics and economics, and his articles have appeared in such American publications as the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, the Weekly Standard, RealClearWorld, the New York Sun, the American, the Miami Herald, and Diario Las Americas (Miami). Daremblum is a graduate of the University of Costa Rica (LL.B.) with honors, and obtained his Master of Arts, Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy, and Ph.D. at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University.
Cathryn Berger Kaye, M.A., a former classroom teacher and author, is president of CBK Associates—International Education Consultants. She is known for program development and highly engaging workshops in addition to keynote addresses that inspire and promote student engagement. She has extensive experience in K-12 settings in the United States and across the globe. Cathryn is the author of The Complete Guide to Service Learning: Proven, Practical Ways to Engage Students in Civic Responsibility, Academic Curriculum, & Social Action Second Edition (Free Spirit Publishing, 2010), and Going Blue: A Kid’s Guide to Protecting Our Oceans and Waterways, with Philippe Cousteau of EarthEcho International (Free Spirit Publishing, 2010).
Dr. Amanda Céspedes Calderón is a physician at the Universidad de Chile with many years of professional experience in child and adolescent psychiatry. She has written numerous books and scientific articles on her area of expertise. She is assistant professor at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and principal at the Instituto de Neurociencias Aplicadas a la Educación y Salud Mental del Escolar (institute of neurosciences applied to student education and mental health). She has specialized in the early detection of borderline personality disorder in children and the application of psychopharmacological therapies.
Arizona State Senator Rich Crandall’s goal is to ensure Arizona children receive the best education available to prepare them for college, career and life. He was appointed as vice-chair of the National Conference of State Legislatures' (NCSL) Standing Committee on Education in December 2010. The Senator will be working with legislators and legislative staff from other states to provide advice, direction and input on the Committee's work on education issues.
In addition, Crandall has been honored by former Governor Jeb Bush by being named as a member of the Digital Learning Council. The Digital Learning Council is focused on integrating technology in the classroom to move beyond our current system of one-size fits all education delivery. State Senator Rich Crandall is a graduate of Brigham Young University, and obtained his Masters degree from BYU as well. Crandall also obtained his MBA from the University of Notre Dame- Summa Cum Laude.

Jeffrey R Beard joined the International Baccalaureate® (IB) in September 2005 and became director general in January 2006, following the retirement of George Walker. Born and educated in the United States, Jeffrey Beard graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1972 with a bachelor of science in analytical management, and has two graduate degrees, including an MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, WI. His business career included roles of increasing responsibility in several multinational corporations where he developed his cross-functional management experience and understanding of strategic planning, thinking and delivery. His decision to move to the IB represented an opportunity for him to "give something back"; to leave the business world and apply his management knowledge and experience to international education, an area to which he is greatly committed.
