ARC 2006: A Look Back

More than 800 members of the IB North America community gathered at the beautiful Our Lucaya Beach Resort on Grand Bahama Island in mid-July to participate in the 25th annual regional conference of IB North America and the Caribbean. The largest-ever regional conference also attracted 129 presenters who delivered 99 sessions on topics relevant to IB educators.

Highlights included general session speeches by Mem Fox, Australia's most renowned children's author; Jennifer James, a cultural anthropologist who has published several books on coping with the increasing pace of change; Rudy Crew, the Superintendent of the Miami (Florida) Public Schools and the former Chancellor of the New York City school system, and Buzz Thomas, a minister and lawyer who now oversees a foundation that works with poor schools in Appalachia to provide educational opportunities. There were also outstanding sessions such as John Barell's Developing More Curious Minds, Steve Culbertson's Building Communities Through Service, and Mike Riley's Access to Advanced Academics for All Students.

As we receive them, we will be posting copies of the presentations on this page, for you to view or download. Also watch this space for news about the 2007 Annual Regional Conference, which will take place in Chicago from 12-15 July 2007. In the fall of 2006, we will be actively seeking presenters, speakers, exhibitors, and sponsors. Stay tuned!
