Diploma Programme

Diploma Review Committee

Applications are invited to the regional office from experienced Diploma Programme Coordinators wishing to be considered for appointment as the regional school representative to the Diploma Review Committee (DRC).

The terms of reference for the DRC state the following about the mode of appointment of schools representatives:

"Schools representatives serving on the Diploma Review Committee are experienced Diploma Programme coordinators.  They are invited by the head of programme following consultation with the regional offices and the chair.  It is proposed that the regional offices request applications from interested coordinators recommended by their heads of schools through their regular regional newsletters and the regional pages of the IBO's public website."

The DRC meets twice a year, one meeting taking place at the time of the chief examiners' meeting (usually in October) and the other approximately six months later.

Applications should be sent to the regional office (attention Diploma Programme Manager) in a letter of recommendation from the head of school.

Supporting May examination students when Diploma results are issued

The regional office receives a large number of calls each year from anxious students and concerned parents after the May examination results have been issued.  Their questions include:  the meaning of the ‘P’ code on their results, what to do regarding University offers, how to register for retake examinations and when is the deadline for retakes. While the regional office can answer some of these questions, it should not be necessary.  We certainly cannot register any students for retakes or apply for enquiries upon results – these are all the responsibilities of schools.

In most cases this situation arises because a few schools have not provided adequate and reliable contact opportunities for their students after the issue of results. All students and parents who contact the regional office after the issue of the May 2007 examination results will be advised to contact their schools.  It is vital, therefore, that all students in all schools have a reliable school contact for the period after the issue of results. It is also vital that all students are made aware of the regulations and deadlines that apply to the retake of examinations.

If by any chance the DP coordinator leaves the school at the end of the academic year then the Principal or Head of school, or their designate, is required to take on this responsibility.  Whatever the arrangements, students and parents must be advised before they leave school.
